We just renovated, and mold came back after a few months. Why?
Short answer: you fixed the surface, not the cause.
What usually happens: walls repainted over damp plaster, no ventilation (windows always closed), thermal bridges (cold corners, ceilings), moisture trapped inside after works
Result (3–6 months): mold returns paint starts to stain smell appears
What actually fixes it: controlled ventilation (VMC / HRV) identify moisture source (facade, roof, capillary rise) correct insulation details (cold bridges)

We installed new windows, but reveals swelled and paint is peeling. Why?
Short answer: wrong installation.
Typical mistake in Portugal: window fixed with foam only, no sealing tapes (inside/outside), no vapor control no proper sill detail
What happens: humid indoor air hits cold edge → condensation water goes into reveals → swelling + peeling
What proper installation looks like: external waterproof tape, internal vapor barrier tape, correct insulation around frame, proper drainage
Consequence if ignored: mold around windows, damaged plaster, heat loss
We replaced roof tiles, now the house smells damp and parquet is swelling. Why?
Short answer: roof doesn’t breathe.
Common scenario: tiles replaced, no ventilation gap (should be ~4–6 cm), no airflow from eaves to ridge, membrane installed incorrectly
What happens: moisture gets trapped under roof, air becomes humid, goes down into living space, wood floors absorb it → swelling
Correct solution: ventilated roof system, proper membrane, continuous airflow
Important: New tiles ≠ dry house
We use heaters in winter, but it’s still cold and bills are high. What can we do?
Short answer: you are heating losses, not the house.
Where heat goes: windows (bad installation or old frames) → up to ~20–40%, roof → ~20–30%, walls (no insulation), uncontrolled air leaks
What people usually do: add more heaters → bills go up comfort doesn’t improve
What actually works: fix windows installation (airtight + insulated), improve roof insulation / ventilation, control airflow (not random drafts), consider heat pump (instead of electric heaters)
